Notes
Make sure you knit the cuff loosely. The combination of colorwork and cables will draw in considerably and have little stretch.
The cuff and leg are knitted at a looser gauge because the cuff is not stretchy. A tighter gauge is used for the foot for durability and a better fit.
Beaded version: Alternate instructions for a beaded cuff are given after the main cuff instructions.
After the cuff is finished, the rest of the sock is knit in stockinette.
Use the crochet hook method to attach beads.
Stitches
kf&b&f: knit into the front, then the back, then the front of the next stitch (2 stitches increased)
Crosses:
Cross 3: Slip next stitch to right needle, then slip the next two stitches to a cable needle and hold to back of work. Slip stitch from right needle back to left needle. Then slip the second (CC stitch) from the cable needle to the left needle. Knit first stitch from left needle with CC. Purl the stitch from the cable need using MC. Knit next stitch from left needle with CC.
Cross right (CR): Slip next stitch to cable needle; hold to back of work. Knit next stitch in CC. Purl stitch from cable needle in MC.
Cross left (CL): Slip next stitch to cable needle; hold to front of work. Purl next stitch in MC. Knit stitch from cable needle in CC.
Contrasting Color Cross Left (CCCL): Slip next stitch to cable needle, hold to front of work. Knit next stitch in CC, then knit stitch from cable needle in CC.

Both Versions:
Cut CC. Switch to smaller needle when desired. I usually switch before starting the heel, but you can start whenever you’d like.
Leg:
Working in MC. Work in stockinette (knit every round) until sock measures desired height.
Heel:
With CC (do not cut MC),
Part 1:
Row 1 (RS): Knit across needle 1 to last stitch, Wrap and turn (w&t)
Row 2: Purl across to last stitch on needle, w&t
Row 3: Knit across to last unwrapped stitch, w&t
Row 4: Purl across to last unwrapped stitch, w&t
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until you have 5 (7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15) wrapped stitches on either side (5, (6, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15) unwrapped stitches in the center).
Part 2:
Note: Always lift wraps from the RS to the WS.
Row 1 (RS): Knit across to first wrapped stitch, knit this stitch with its wrap, w&t
Row 2: Purl across to first wrapped stitch, purl this stitch with its wrap, w&t
Row 3: Knit across to first double-wrapped stitch, knit this stitch with both wraps, w&t
Row 4: Purl across to first double-wrapped stitch, purl this stitch with both wraps, w&t
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until you have one double-wrapped stitch remaining on each side.
You will now return to working in the round and resume working with MC.
Round 1: With RS facing, slip the double-wrapped stitch to the right needle (if it is not already there). Knit across to last stitch. Knit last stitch with both wraps. Knit across instep.
Round 2: Knit first stitch of sole with both wraps. Knit across sole. Place marker to indicate beginning of round.
Calculate length to knit foot:
Measure your row (round) gauge (rounds per inch):____
Enter Rounds from the table below:____
Stitches Cast On | Rounds |
30 | 8 |
40 | 12 |
50 | 14 |
60 | 18 |
70 | 22 |
80 | 28 |
90 | 30 |
A quick math problem: divide you Rounds by your Row Gauge:___(A)
Foot:
Work in stockinette until sock is equal to A inches shorter than desired foot length.
Toe:
Switch to CC. Cut MC. Knit one round
Decrease rounds:
Round 1: (k1, ssk, knit across to last 3 stitches on needle, k2tog, k1) twice
Round 2: k around
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until you have 7 (8, 11, 12, 13, 12, 15) stitches on each needle, ending with Round 2. Graft using Kitchener stitch.
Finishing
Weave in all yarn ends. Block. Enjoy!
