Coming up: At the Summit KAL!!!!
What a busy summer it has been! I had planned to post a lot more over the last month, but I got sucked into relaxing on my vacation and man was that just what I needed! Almost 3 weeks visiting my family, SOCK SUMMIT! and then a few days of Abi at my house, it’s been great. But I think that we have kept you all waiting plenty long enough.
We have been casually dropping hints about a KAL (knit along) with our At the Summit pattern. Thank you to all who have been purchasing the pattern already, we are so grateful because the more copies sold, the bigger the donation to the Crohn’s and Colitis charity. (CCFA.org) Our plan for the KAL is to increase the donation, and to have a super fun time knitting and sharing these socks.
Here is how it will work. Beginning Sept 1, participants will knit the 10 pieces required to make a pair of At the Summit socks. It doesn’t matter whether you use the same yarn for all the pieces or not, as long as you get gauge. We will each knit the foot pieces to our own size, (an update is coming for the pattern which will detail how to tell if it is long enough.) and keep those at home. The other pieces (toe, heel, leg and cuff) will be mailed to Abi, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (postage for the return trip should be pretty much the same as the postage to send your pieces to Abi, as long as you are shipping within the US. For those of us outside of the States, it will be more tricky, and so we will work that out with Abi via paypal before she ships the parts back to us. The deadline for Abi to receive the sock parts is October 15. At that time, she will mix up all the pieces, and send them back out. When we get them back, we will assemble our socks according to the pattern. We will all wind up with a unique pair of socks knit by 9 different people, how cool is that?!
Rules: Please be careful to get gauge and to follow the pattern exactly, to facilitate the assembly later. (Gauge is 6.5spi, using fingering weight handspun or commercial sport weight.)
Send the sock pieces sealed in a small ziplock bag, and write on the bag if you smoke or have pets, or are allergic to those things. Abi will be as careful as possible and do her best to avoid matching an allergen to a person with allergies, but to be on the safe side, be prepared to wash the sock parts when you get them back. We cannot be held responsible if an allergic reaction occurs, although we will do our best to prevent it. If you send pieces knit with handspun, we will do our best to return handspun pieces to you, although we can’t guarantee that as we don’t know how many people will be using it.
Please make sure that your contributions arrive on time. If they are late, you might not get pieces from other knitters, as Abi will need all the pieces there at once to mix and match most effectively. She will ship the parts as soon as possible after October 15th.
Upon completing the assembly of the socks, we would love to see them! We will have a thread in our Ravelry group to show off the FO’s.
Please comment on this post if you would like to play, making sure to list your email address in the spot provided (not in the comment box.) An email will be sent to you with the address to mail to on or shortly after September 1. We don’t want to list Abi’s address in this post, I am sure you understand.
I can’t wait!!!!
