Things that are like knitting, but aren’t.
Today I went fishing with my boy. We stood on the dock, casting out our lines, and reeling them back in. It’s a repetitive motion. Cast out, reel in. Wind wind wind. There can be strain on your wrists, from holding the rod. It requires a lot of doing the same thing before you accomplish your goal, which is catching a fish. Sometimes, you fish until your kid gets bored, and you never accomplish that goal. There’s string involved. And a somewhat pointy stick.
Knitting is the same. A lot of doing the same thing over and over. A lot of winding, to get your yarn ready. There can be strain on your wrists. There’s also that same sense of peace, the same feeling of your body settling, your blood pressure lowering, your mind drifting. Relaxation. But in the end, they aren’t the same. Today, I didn’t even see a fish, let alone catch one. But I always have something from knitting, even if it’s just a slightly bigger piece of fabric than I had yesterday. Fishing has it’s place, and can be fun, but I think I will stick with knitting.
